On 14 September 2024, as part of Slovenia’s Cleaning Action “Clean Coasts” (Čista obala), linked to the International Coastal Cleanup, our colleagues from the Slovenian’s National Institute of Chemistry (NIC) organized a special workshop “Secrets of Plastic” aimed at raising awareness among young people about plastic pollution and potential solutions. The workshop welcomed children to actively engage in the classification of plastic waste.

The Open Innovation and Digitalization of Materials and Manufacturing Conference (OIP Conference 2024) took place from 21 to 23 October 2024 in Kaiserslautern (Germany). Organised by Fraunhofer ITWM as part of a series of events by the EU projects VIPCOAT, MUSICODE and OpenModel.

The 2024 edition of the Austrian Chemistry Days (ChemieTage 2024) took place from 23-25 September in Graz, Austria. The biennial Austrian Chemistry Days is an essential event for the national and international chemistry community, offering a unique opportunity for stakeholders to come together, exchange ideas, and promote advancements in sustainable chemical practices. It featured presentations, discussions, and poster sessions aimed at advancing the field of chemistry, with a special emphasis on innovation and sustainability.

The 1st edition of Nanochemistry Camp, organised jointly by the I.S.E.O. Institute and the University of Brescia, was an international residential summer school aimed at master’s and doctoral students in chemistry and allied fields, where nanochemistry played a key role.

The MaterialsWeek 2024 took place 17-21 June 2024 in sunny Limassol (Cyprus). The event aimed to bring together Research and Innovation (R&I) communities that are driving advances in materials innovation manifested across diverse value chains and industrial markets.

With the objective of give some insight into plastic pollution, solutions, and good practice examples regarding biodiversity (especially water) and how to effectively communicate information among different stakeholders, our colleagues of NIC organised the event “Scientific and business approaches for effective communication on microplastics and biodiversity” on 7 June 2024 in Ljubljana (Slovenia) and hybrid.
